BENGALURU:  The Assembly on Wednesday passed the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University Bill to develop dedicated and specialised human resources to raise the life standards of rural populace.

Piloting the bill, RDPR Minister H K Patil said that the proposed varsity would come up in Gadag district. The university will have five schools —Agriculture and Rural Development Business Management School, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj School, Environment Sciences, Public Health and Hygiene Management School, Social Sciences and Rural Reconstruction School and Skills and Entrepreneurship Development School —each specialising on different subjects associated with rural development and governance. The university would entail a  non-recurring expenditure of Rs 166 crore and annual recurring expenditure of Rs 30 crore.
