Leopard kills coffee estate watchman in Madikeri taluk of Karnataka

According to the locals, the victim, Manjappa was attacked while he was sleeping in the shed, guarding the coffee estate.

MADIKERI: A 65-year-old watchman was killed by a leopard in Coovercolly near here during the early hours of Monday, said forests official. A half-eaten body of the victim was found by the locals in the watchmen’s shed on Monday.

According to the locals, Manjappa was attacked while he was sleeping in the shed, guarding the coffee estate. The body was found in the watchmen’s shed with one arm, pieces of his face and neck missing. 

Deputy conservator of forests Surya Sen told the New Indian Express that the incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday as the leopard entered the shed through a window and attacked the man. 

The family of the deceased would be given a compensation of Rs five lakh, said Sen.
