Karnataka minister fined for joyride without helmet in Udupi

A joyride on a bike by district-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj without a helmet resulted in the minister paying a fine to the Udupi police.

UDUPI: A joyride on a bike by district-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj without a helmet resulted in the minister paying a fine to the Udupi police on Saturday. 

According to police sources, a case was booked against the minister under section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 which is a general provision for booking of cases for violations of the MV Act. A suo-moto case was booked at the Brahmavara police station for the bike ride which happened near Karje village in Brahmavara.

Photographs of the bike ride, posted on social media, generated a lot of interest as people reacted sharply to the minister's decision to ride without a helmet. Superintendent of Police (SP), Sanjeev Patil said that the minister himself came forward and paid the fine of Rs 100.
