VIJAYAPURA: The much-awaited Vijayapura Airport is nearing completion, with efforts underway to commence flight operations by the end of January 2027, said Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) Chairman SG Nanjayyanamath.

Addressing media persons recently after inspecting the ongoing works at the airport, he said the airport project had faced delays due to the lack of permission from the Environment Department and a stay order issued by the Supreme Court. However, the stay was lifted about three weeks ago following sustained efforts by Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil.

Preparations for night landing are also underway. The tender process is expected to be completed within a week.

He said efforts would be made to commence flights as early as January 2027, subject to final clearances from the technical authorities and DGCA.
