ALUVA: A pall of gloom fell on Kaniyankunnu near Aluva on Thursday when the news of the death of Varghese Thomas, manager in Hotel Taj, in terrorist attack in Mumbai reached the village. The news spread like a wild fire and hundreds of people started flowing to the Vazhakkunnath House of the deceased.
Varghese Thomas and family, belonged to Mannara Colony in Pathanamthitta, are settled in Mahim in Mumbai. He is survived by mother Grace, wife Suno of Theckkemuriyil, Thiruvalla, children Wesley, a nursing student, and Rainel Abraham, a class X student. His father Thomas died earlier.
Thomas Varghese bought the house in Kaniyankunnu in 1995, adjacent to the house of his uncle V V Varghese. V V Varghese came to know about the death of Varghese Thomas through a TV channel. His age was given as 42 but the actual age was 48.
The news was confirmed when V V Varghese contacted his relatives in Mumbai at 3 pm. Grace, mother of deceased Varghese Thomas, was not in a position to talk to media. She was under severe shock.
V V Varghese told to this website’s newspaper that his daughter Anitha was the last relative to call Varghese Thomas from UK to enquire about his condition after she came to know about the terrorists’ attack at the Taj. Varghese Thomas had told her that he had no problem. But the phone connection was continuously disrupted.
Grace and Varghese will leave for Mumbai to attend the funeral in Dadar Orthodox Church. The funeral will be held after the return of the parents of Suno (wife of the deceased) from USA.
