THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Ernakulam-range IG Vinson M Paul has been constituted to probe the Paul Muthoot George murder case. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that all mysteries pertaining to the case would be out in the open soon.
The Kollam SP has been asked to probe the allegations that the Chavara police released the three persons who tried to take the Ford Endeavour (which was involved in the accident) from the Chavara police station. IG Thiruvananthapuram- range A Hemachandran will supervise the probe.
A damaged mobile phone recovered from the crime scene helped in tracing the gang supposedly involved in the murder. Recovered in several pieces the mobile phone was examined by the police Cyber Cell and it was found that the connection was in the name of one Vilasini, mother of the Kari Satheesh suspected to have stabbed Paul. "The investigation is progressing but is not yet complete.
At present the Alappuzha DySP is conducting the probe. Since the investigation has to be extended to more districts, an SIT under IG Vinson Paul has been constituted," he said.
Kodiyeri alleged that misleading information pertaining to the case was being planted by a section with vested interests. Such information is aimed at demoralising the investigating officers and derailing the investigation.
"Certain sections (like financial institutions who use the service of goondas for anti-social activities) are quite concerned about the stern action being taken by the government against goondas. The source of money of these anti-socials will also be looked into," Kodiyeri added.
ADGP Intel l igence Siby Mathews has been directed to probe the activities of anti-social elements and the lapses in the implementation of the Goonda Act. The police are making an all out effort to trace gangsters Om Prakash and Puthenpalam Rajesh.
The involvement of the two came to light only after the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner confirmed it.
When asked about Kari Satheesh's RSS links, Kodiyeri said that the political connections of the accused had no connection with the case.
"Paul's family members are already grieving. It is not right to rub salt in their wounds by dragging them into further controversies," asserted Kodiyeri.
