THRISSUR: Maddalam maestro and former principal of Kerala Kalamandalam Narayanan Nambeeshan has been selected for the fellowship of Kalamandalam Deemed University for the year 2008-09. Announcing the fellowship and other awards at a press conference here on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor K G Poulose said that the fellowship consisted of Rs.20,000, citation and artifact.

Poulose said Chemencherry Kunjiraman Nair had been selected for the Kalaratnam Award, consisting of Rs 10,000, citation and artifact.

Others selected for awards are: Kalamandalam Ramachandran Unnithan (kathakali vesham), Pathiyoor Shankarankutty (kathakali music), Varanasi Vishnu Namboodiri (vadyam), V R Padmini (dance), P V Kunjikrishna Poduval (thullal), O K Ambika (dance music), Margi Madhu (koodiyattam), V M Kutty ( Nadan kalakal), K B Raj Anand (book-Sivakalam), Vinod Mangara (documentary). The awards consist of Rs 10,000, citation and artifact. The vicechancellor has also announced the endowment awards for the year 2008-09. They are - Dr V S Sharma Endowment to Kottarakkara Ganga, Mukundaraja Puraskaram to N Radhakrishnan Nair and Bhagavathar Kunjunnithamburan Puraskaram to Kalamandalam Mukundan.
