Radhakrishnan's father, the late Malabar Gopalan Nair of Medayil here was a harmonium player and a classical vocalist during the post-Independence era. Gopalan Nair, a native of Harippad here, was known as Malabar Gopalan Nair after he staged many musical programmes in Tamil Nadu.

Radhakrishnan's mother Kamalakshi, was a music teacher who shared his love for music, and had greatly influenced the career of Radhakrishnan. Radhakrishnan last called at his ancestral house in Harippad in 2002 for attending the wedding of a relative, villagers said.

Though Radhakrishnan was born and brought up in Harippad, he had only a small circle of friends there. Musician Sreekumaran Thampi, CISF retired assistant inspector general R G Thampi, and industrialist Bashuruddin are among his classmates there ?
