Shatkala Govinda Marar music fest begins

RAMAMANGALAM: The three-day Shatkala Govinda Marar music festival organised by the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi began at the Shatkala Govinda Smaraka Kalasamithi auditorium here on Friday.

Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated the fest. Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi vice-chairman T M Abraham presided over the function,

Violinist Nedumangad Sivanandan was felicitated. Kalasamithi president George S Paul delivered T M Jacob remembrance speech. Pampakuda block panchayat president Sherly Stephan, Ramamangalam panchayat president Wilson K John,  district panchayat member Julie Sabu, Akademi secretary P V Krishnan Nair and Kalasamithi secretary K Jayachandran Nair spoke.

A slew of performances have been scheduled for the three days.

Sopana sangeetham was performed by Ambalappuzha Vijayakumar and a sangeetha kacheri by O S Arun.  A pancharathna keerthanalapanam and sopanam recitation by Thrikkampuram Krishnankutty Marar were other programmes held.

On Saturday, the performances will include, sangeetha kacheri by Patrishya Sabu and Iylasha Sabu, Kathakali padom by Kottackal Manoj and thayambaka by Panavanna Sasi and Mohiniyattam by Akhila Gopinath.  The festival will conclude on Sunday. Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor  Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the concluding ceremony.
