NILAMBUR: The IUML and the CPM will have to decide the future course of action in Moothedam panchayat soon, as the election to the president and vice-president posts is scheduled for June 7. A no-confidence motion moved by the CPM with the support of the IUML had ousted the panchayat president, P Usman of the Congress. Panchayat vice-president Usha Sachidanandan had resigned even before the voting on the no-trust motion against her.

The IUML, which has four members in the panchayat, has not taken a decision on sharing power with the CPM. However, they said that they would support any other candidate of the Congress for the president post.

“There’s no trouble for the UDF in Moothedam. Our issue is with the ousted president P Usman. We are ready to support any other member of the Congress,” said P Ashraf, an IUML panchayat member.

However, P Usman is adamant that he will be the Congress candidate for the president post.
