As the Revolutionary Marxist Party’s (RMP) demand for a CBI probe into the killing of T P Chandrasekharan is fast becoming a matter of discussion, the party is expanding its base outside Kozhikode district.
The Thrissur District Convention of the party will be held this month, which will be the first district convention outside Kozhikode. RMP leaders said that they were concentrating mainly on Thrissur and Ernakulam districts besides Kozhikode. Many people from various parts of the state have come forward to join hands with the party in protest against the brutal murder of T P Chandrasekharan. In Thrissur, many people who quit the CPM have joined the RMP in Kunnamkulam, Vadakkanchery and Shoranur, added the RMP leaders. The date and venue of the convention are yet to be decided, said RMP leader and Left Coordination Committee general secretary K S Hariharan.
Party committees have been formed in various parts of the district. In Ernakulam district, many people are coming forward to join the party, he added.
RMP, formed by Chandrasekharan and his supporters in 2008 after their exit from the CPM on ideological issues, cemented a strong base in Onchiyam, a red bastion of the CPM. From the time of its formation, the functioning of the party was concentrated in Onchiyam, Eramala and Chorodu panchayats of the district.
In Kannur, though no committee has been formed yet, the sympathisers of the party are assembled under a cultural forum which has links with the Berlin Socialist Samvada Vedi, launched by Marxist ideologue Berlin Kunhananthan Nair.
In a bid to raise solidarity among the people against the murder politics, RMP and LCC will hold a separate convention in Thrissur in the last week of this month.
“The programme is aimed at ending political killings. The killing of Chandrasekharan should be made the last in the list of murder politics. Prominent writers and other cultural leaders will attend this gathering,” said Hariharan.
K K Rema, the slain leader’s wife, will also attend the programmes of the party. “Many people are joining the movement in various parts of the state,” said Rema.
