Study on Thakazhi's works wins award

Thakazhiyude Sargapathangal, a study by Professor G Balachandran on the life and works of eminent Malayalam litterateur Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, has won an award instituted by the Global Pravasi Malayali Council.

Thakazhiyude Sargapathangal, a study by Professor G Balachandran on the life and works of eminent Malayalam litterateur Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, has won an award instituted by the Global Pravasi Malayali Council.

Professor Balachandran was given the award by Global Pravasi Malayali Council chairman Sabu Kurien at a function organised at Preston, United Kingdom, on Sunday. The works of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, who made Malayalam literature popular across the world, are familiar to the people in the UK. Thakazhi was one of the leading figures of the progressive literature movement. “The book by Professor Balachandran on Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai is an in-depth and comprehensive study,” award committee chairman Anandakumar said. Balachandran expressed thanks while accepting the award.

He was given a warm reception by various organisations at Manchester, Birmingham and Preston.

Thakazhiyude Sargapathangal was published by Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Thrissur. Professor Balachandran, former faculty member of the Malayalam Department of SD College, Alappuzha, is now chairman of the Coir Board.
