KOCHI: The CBI on Tuesday took over the investigation into the suspicious death of a nursing student at a hostel in Pavaratty, Thrissur, on December 2005. The CBI Thiruvananthapuram Unit has reregistered the FIR and filed it before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate.

The CBI took over the case following a directive issued by the High Court on a   petition filed by the relatives of the deceased. A case of unnatural death was registered at Pavaratty police station after Jisamol, 21, of Chetupuzha, was found hanging in her hostel room on December 5, 2005.

She was a final year student of General Nursing at San Jose Parish Hospital, Pavaratty. A day before her death, she was caught for allegedly copying during examination. Pavaratty police had concluded that the death was a case of suicide.

However, her relatives approached the High Court saying that she did not commit suicide, but was raped and murdered. The chemical examiner’s report revealed that the deceased was raped before death. Though the blood group of the deceased was O+ve, the blood stain found on her dress was of another group. The relatives had also named five suspecs behind the murder.

Around three years ago, the case was handed over to the Crime Branch after relatives of Jisamol filed a petition in the High Court. However, they filed another petition in 2013, demanding a CBI probe. Last month, HC directed CBI to take over the probe within 3 weeks.
