Two in the Dock for Duping Nurses

The partners of Sealine International, a travel agency-cum-recruiting company based in Marvar Kavala here, were arrested on Saturday for swindling nurses by offering fake employment visa to Singapore and Kuwait. Police arrested Biju Devassy, 36, of Karakot house, Chunangamvely here, and Babu, 57, of Puthanmadom house, Edava, Varkala, on charges of cheating nearly 300 nurses from various parts of the state.

According to the police, the travel agency had collected money in the range of `50,000 to `3.5 lakh from visa seekers. The arrest was carried out on the basis of a compliant registered by Liji, of Thrissur, who is also a victim of the racket.

According to the complaint, Liji had paid `3.5 lakh and had been waiting for a call from the travel agency. They had informed her that the appointment papers and visa would be handed over by January 19. However, the ‘agency’ never responded to her calls. Nearly 25 such families gathered on the police station premises following the arrest.
