RMO Assaulted at Kollam District Hospital

KOLLAM: The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the district hospital here was assaulted by a group of people who came along with an accident victim, on Tuesday. In the attack, RMO Dr Anil Kumar suffered injuries on his hand.The incident happened around 3 pm when five persons accompanying an accident victim went to meet RMO as the casualty doctors had advised immediate scanning. “I was trying to help them sort out their issue as they did not have money for conducting the scanning. But, they instead attacked me,” said Anil Kumar.

The East police is probing the incident. Hospital superintendent S Usha Kumari said that a formal complaint would filed tomorrow in connection with the incident.

Attacks against doctors working in casualty department has been a frequent occurrence at the district hospital despite high vigil. An aid post of the police has been set up near the casualty to prevent such attacks. Besides, the hospital has 15 security men in shifts and CCTV cameras for monitoring.
