ALAPPUZHA:The CPM has fielded singer Daleema in the Aroor division of district panchayat, on Tuesday.
She is the only candidate from the tinsel town in the district.
Daleema, daughter of Thomas John, Karumancheri house, Ezhupunna, is noted for her devotional songs, and has sung about 25 songs in Malayalam films ‘Mummyude Swantham Achoos, Sneha Swanthanam, Grama Panchayat, Kalyana Pittennu, Krishnagudiyil oru Pranaya Kalathu’. She has also sang songs for dramas and had bagged three state awards.
“My area of performance is devotional songs, and I have rendered about 7,000 devotional songs in 30 years. I am not a politician, however the communist parties attracted me because their broadmindedness helped the society and backward classes to attain a position in society. Some of my friends prompted me to contest in the polls and this is my first time, Daleema said. The Aroor division includes four panchayats Aroor, Eramalloor, Thuravoor and Ezhupunna.
