KOLLAM: The Mata Amritanandamayi Math in a statement said that it has completed the construction of 100 houses meant for the poor in the state. According to math authorities, the keys and certificates of the houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries during the 63rd birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi on Tuesday.
“It is Mata Amritanandamayi’s dream to ensure shelter to all. Every year, the Math constructs houses for the poor and needy and present them to the beneficiaries on Amma’s birthday. These 100 houses are part of a 500- houses project under various stages of construction throughout the state,” said Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, vice-chairman of Mata Amritanandamayi Math. Since 1998, the Math has constructed more than 47,000 houses for the homeless, in more than 75 locations across India through “Amrita Kuteeram -- Free Houses for the Poor Programme.”
Meanwhile, the three-day celebrations of Mata Amrithanandamayi was kick-started on Sunday with a seminar on ‘Making Sustainability a Reality from Policy to Successful Practice’, which was inaugurated by Finance Minister Thomas Isaac. Representatives from NITI Aayog, UN, WHO and various universities attended the seminar.
Isaac said that participation of the public was vital for the sustainability of development programmes. He also called upon the people to participate in programmes like ensuring safe drinking water, waste management and organic farming.
