THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Lokayukta on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the allegations against Health and Social Justice Minister K K Shylaja over nepotism in the appointments of members in the State Child Rights panel. Lokayukta Justice Pius C Kuriakose and Upalokayukta Justice K P Balachandran gave the orders on a petition filed by Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala against the minister.

While admitting the petition on file, the Lok Ayukta also sent a notice to Shylaja, Social Justice Deparment Secretary, former Child Rights Panel member Shyamala Devi and Suresh, who was inducted as a member of the panel. The division bench also directed the Social Justice Secretary to produce all the files relating to the appointment on September 14. In his complaint, Chennithala said the minister should be declared not fit to hold the office in view of the various allegations under section 14 of the Keral Lokayukta Act.
