ALAPPUZHA: The tanker lorry which is suspected to have hit the car in which Gopinathan Pillai, father of Gujarat fake encounter case victim Pranesh Kumar Pillai alias Javed Sheik, was travelling, was spotted from Thrissur.
Pattanakkad Sub Inspector B Shajimon said the tanker lorry was spotted from Thrissur after examining the CCTV footages from various parts of NH 66 between Cherthala and Aroor toll booth.
“We have taken the driver and the vehicle into custody. The scientific examination to prove that the vehicle hit the car is on.Gopinathan Pillai’s brother Madhavan Pillai, who was driving the car when the mishap occurred, had said he lost control after a lorry rear-ended the vehicle. Following this, the car hit another lorry coming from the opposite direction. Only after scientific investigation that we will be able to prove the lorry was involved in the mishap,” Shajimon said.
Gopinathan Pillai’s body was cremated on his house premises at Nooranad near Kayamkulam on Saturday.
Gopinathan Pillai, was a petitioner in the fake encounter case that killed his son Pranesh Kumar, Ishrat Jahan and two others in 2004. Pillai had also filed cases in Gujarat and was one of the witnesses in the case in which many top police officers from Gujarat were arraigned.
