KOCHI: Consumerfed managing director M Ramanunni said he will not file an appeal on his own against the Kerala High Court Division Bench order in the Supreme Court. The Division Bench had barred Ramanunni from continuing as Consumerfed managing director.
“It was the government which appointed me as the Consumerfed MD and it is up to the government to file an appeal in the Supreme Court. I will not personally approach the Supreme Court against this verdict as it will be an expensive affair,” Ramanunni told Express.
He said there is a provision in the manual of Consumerfed which permits the government to appoint a government official currently in service or a person like him who holds MBA and has experience in heading an organisation on a contract basis, as the managing director.
“My predecessor S Ratnakumar was also appointed by then government in a similar fashion considering his management background. He was also appointed on contract basis. Earlier, a Single Bench of the Kerala High Court had upheld my appointment when the same persons approached the court. I also respect the decision of Kerala High Court Division Bench,” he said.
“At present, I am in Palakkad and I have spoken to minister and chairman. I will reach Kochi on Thursday and a decision on the future course will be taken after that. I will have to vacate the office following the court order,” he said.
Ramanunni was appointed MD of Consumerfed after LDF Government came into power in 2016. He was a popular figure among the employees in Consumerfed after he launched some innovative initiatives to revive Consumerfed. “Several employees contacted me after hearing the news. I think they are concerned about the High Court decision,” he said.
