KANNUR: The CPM found itself under immense pressure after the statement of Akash Thillankeri, an accused in the murder of Youth Congress leader S L Shuhaib, given to the police, has come out. During interrogation by the police, Akash said the party had promised that dummy accused would be produced in connection with the murder case.

The ‘quotation’ was given by the DYFI local leadership. According to Akash, they said as the party was in power there was no need to worry about the probe. When he asked whether beating up of Shuhaib was enough, they insisted that he be hacked,  said Akash.

By indirectly admitting the accused in the Shuhaib murder case is a CPM member and it will inquire about the involvement of its workers on its own, the party has once again found itself in a spot. It was while speaking to reporters after the all-party peace meeting held at the Kannur collectorate on Wednesday that CPM district secretary P Jayarajan indirectly admitted Akash is a party member.

The all-party peace meeting called by the government in the wake of Shuhaib’s murder came a cropper as UDF leaders staged a walkout after an altercation with CPM leaders. Though the meeting proceeded after the UDF boycott, the absence of the Congress and its allies left a gaping hole in the process.Meanwhile, senior Congress leader K Sudhakaran’s hunger strike in protest against the police laxity and the CPM violence, entered the third day with the leader showing signs of tiredness.
