THRISSUR: The killing fields of Kannur could prove costly for the party’s district unit at the state conference. Curiously, the report or the speech have no direct mention against Kannur secretary P Jayarajan in the political violence issue.
The organisational report comes down heavily on political violence and murder. Both in the report and presentation, Kodiyeri has clarified the party does not approve of political violence.
“The secretary made it clear that it’s the party state committee’s decision not to support political violence. No person or district can do something above the state committee’s decision. Though Jayarajan’s name was not mentioned in the context, the remark was made in connection with Kannur,” sources said.
There is no specific mention about P Jayarajan glorifying himself in the report. But there are ample indications in this regard. “The party leadership was unhappy over the issue. Also, there were general remarks about leaders and MLAs erecting flex boards. The message was clear - actions catering to leaders’ ego won’t be tolerated,” sources said. Kodiyeri said the party has no role to play in the Shuhaib murder.
He repeated strict action would be taken if anyone was involved. “The political violence in Kannur is sure to be part of general discussions. Leaders from the southern districts may raise the same. Both the general secretary and the state secretary mentioned about political violence in their speeches,” sources said.
There are speculations that the party may even go for some action against Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan in view of the current political turmoil.
