THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Government has directed the police to strictly monitor the activities of people associated with SDPI and similar outfits. “Such organisations usually indulge in social activities and engage themselves in taking up people’s issues.

The CPM should make it a point not to associate either politically or socially with such outfits,” pointed out a senior Left leader. The CPM chose to clarify its stance at a time when there are demands from various corners to impose a ban on Social Democratic Party of India. Senior CPI leader Pannyan Raveendran had just the other day urged the government to ban the outfit.

“The organisation is against the Muslim community and secularism. There should be urgent action to ban the operations of this extremist organisation,” Pannyan had opined, while pointing out earlier instances of the state witnessing violence due to this outfit.
