KOCHI: Intelligence agencies have launched a probe to ascertain more details about Abdul Latheef, the father of the three children who were rescued by child welfare committee (CWC) from captivity at their house in North Paravur. Apart from tracking the family’s source of income, the agencies will look into the activities of PM Mohammed Ali Foundation For Human Rights and Social Justice, which was set up by Latheef’s late father Mohammed Ali.
The office of the foundation was functioning on the ground floor of the two-storeyed building where Latheef and his wife Lekha stayed along with their three sons.
“It seems the family has been surviving on money provided by some relatives of Latheef. A preliminary inquiry revealed that Latheef owed money to a few people. There was no visible activity at the foundation office. We are collecting details about the foundation from the registration department,” police officers said, adding that the family members will be questioned in detail.
Though the family has been following Islam, none of them is associated with local mosque committees. Meanwhile, the CWC will decide on the future course of action on July 27 when the children will be presented before the CWC. “After evaluation, we will decide whether the family needs counselling or not,” the officers said.
