THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Commuters from West Kochi who travel through the congested roads to reach Ernakulam south and north will get a breather shortly as the Railways will start train services between Ernakulam Junction and Cochin Harbour Terminus shortly.

In a release, the Railways said 3 car DEMU will be used to run services between Ernakulam Junction and Cochin Harbour Terminus in Willingdon Island shortly, resuming train services after a long hiatus.

The senior Railway officials visited the Locomotive Workshop, Perambur, which is readying three 20-year-old 700 HP Diesel Multiple Units into swanky new ones by refurbishing them. The 3 car Diesel Multiple Units with one Diesel Power Car in front, one Trailing Car, and One Driving Trailer Car has the unique feature of being able to move both ways without requiring a turn around.

These DEMUs were completely refurbished by the loco works Perambur and mechanical branch, Chennai, by providing completely new flooring and other facilities.
