NIA searches residences of Saifi, relatives

The NIA custody of Saifi will expire on Friday evening. According to sources, the search was conducted with the assistance of the Delhi police.

KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Elathur train arson attack searched the residences of accused Shahrukh Saifi and his relatives in Shaheen Bagh, New Delhi, on Thursday. The agency also questioned his friends in New Delhi and directed them to appear at its office in Kochi. 

The NIA custody of Saifi will expire on Friday evening. According to sources, the search was conducted with the assistance of the Delhi police. The agency also checked the carpentry workshop of Saifi and his father in Noida. The search was conducted based on the revelations by Saifi and his relatives, who are being questioned at the NIA office in Kochi. 

The NIA is grilling Saifi’s friends on suspicion that they knew the accused’s travel plan. It also collected evidence from Saifi’s mobile phone and social media accounts. Currently, Saifi is the sole accused in the case.
