KEONJHAR: When it comes to traffic management, it’s a free-for-all situation here. Lack of traffic rule enforcement, unauthorised parking and unchecked plying of overloaded vehicles have led to traffic snarl-ups on the two major thoroughfares - NH 6 and NH 215 - crisscrossing the town.

At least 3,000 trucks and 7,000 passenger vehicles ply daily on NH 215. But maintenance has never been on the concerned authorities’ agenda, said eminent citizen and former president of Dharanidhar college Dillip Kumar Sahoo. District and police administration are also callous in regulating the vehicles in daytime, he alleged. With iron-loaded trucks frequently plying on NH 215, road accidents are the order of the day, alleged State secretary of Nationalist Congress Party Barada Das. Unauthorised parking of trucks on both sides of the road is creating numerous traffic problems. SP Soumendra Priyadarshi said staff shortage and busy schedule have made the job of traffic cops difficult. Coordination between officials of transport department and police is the need hour, voiced eminent citizens.
