PURI: With the onset of winter, the deities of Sri Jagannath temple here are attired in woollen clothing, velvet blanket and mufflers.

As per tradition, the colour of the warm clothing keep changing according to star powers.

On Monday, the colour of dresses is grey.

On Tuesday, a typical dress reflecting five blended colours called `Barapatia’ is used.

Blue is used on Wednesday, yellow on Thursday, white on Friday, black on Saturday and red clothes on Sunday.

The servitors dress Lord Jagannath, elder brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra in warm clothes after the `bhogs’ are over.

This ritual is repeated everyday from “Odhana Sasthi to Basanta Panchami.” The colours are prescribed according to the star rulers of the particular day.

During the day, the deities use their routine dresses, but as evening sets in, they are covered up with warm clothes.

Pilgrims visiting the Puri temple during this season were enthralled after witnessing the changing dress code of the deities. Hundreds of devotees follow the colour code of the deities’ clothes for appeasing the stars.
