Congress threatens to impeach Speaker

Express News Service

Congress on Saturday announced that it would bring a resolution for the removal of Speaker Pradip Amat during budget session of the Assembly.

“We will bring a resolution for the removal of the Speaker in the budget session for Amat has been functioning in a most partisan manner,” Opposition leader Bhupinder Singh told mediapersons before lodging a formal complaint against Amat at Raj Bhavan. Though the party is aware of its strength  in the House, Congress wanted to keep it on record about the alleged ‘partisan’ manner being adopted by Amat as the Speaker, Singh said.

Congress has only 27 members in the House while BJD has 108 MLAs, BJP six, CPI one and five Independents. Congress chief whip Prasad Harichandan also alleged that the Speaker did not function in an impartial manner.
