Recognition, much deserved

Popular actor, producer and director, Bijaya Jena better known as Dolly  Jena will be accorded the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to the field of cinema at the 3rd Real Vision Odisha Film Fair Awards 2012. The glittering awards nite will be held at the Utkal Mandap on December 1.

An FTII product, Dolly shot to fame in Ollywood pretty early and soon won the State Award for Best Actress for her performance in Jaga Balia. She went on to work in a number of Hindi and Odia feature films, TV serials and plays, of which Hakim Babu (Odia film) received the National Award for the Best Odia Film.

In 1992, she made her directorial debut with Odia film Tara which dealt with the story of a poor girl who is sold off as a bride to a practicing ‘tantrik’.

In 1997, she scripted, directed and produced her second film Abhaas (Prologue) which earned critical acclaim in international film festivals.

She has also acted in Merchant-Ivory’s British film, The Deceivers. Besides, Dolly has been a member of the National Feature Film Awards jury, governing council of the Film & TV Institute of India and international jury in Fajr International Film Festival, Tehran.
