Trouble for former minister and Rourkela MLA of BJD Sarada Prasad Nayak mounted further after local Congress activists staged a demonstration on Friday alleging his involvement in a chit fund case. The Congress activists burnt Nayak’s effigy in front of the office of Rourkela ADM demanding his arrest. They alleged Nayak was president of Sundargarh District Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Ltd (SDMCS) which had duped its depositors.

Three depositors in the cooperative society Punam Tirkey, Sanjay Dandapat and Nilambar Gope lodged a complaint against Nayak at Bondamunda police station. As per the complaint, they had deposited ` 63,000 but did not get any return. Nayak, SDMCS Director Dilip Mohanty and Secretary Prasanna Acharya have been named in the complaint.

However, talking to this paper, Nayak said he was innocent and Congress was politicising the issue. He said while he was in Congress, some youth leaders of the party requested him to be the president of SDMCS in 2003. After he joined BJD in 2004, he has never been in touch with the SDMCS officials and had sent his resignation to Acharya, he added.
