Express News Service

More than five persons were injured in a pre-poll violence at Sorala village under Kusupur gram panchayat in Mahanga Assembly segment on Monday.

BJD candidate for the segment Pratap Jena and Kedrapara Lok Sabha candidate Baijayant Panda were taking out a road show along with actress Maheswata Ray. While the rally was coming from Panaspur to Sorala village, some local dissident BJD workers opposed their entry. It led to a tussle between the two groups.

Villagers of Sorala alleged that while a man from BJD rally fired one round in air and some BJD workers started assaulting dissident group, they ran away from the spot leaving behind their motorcycles.

In retaliation, the BJD workers damaged a motorcycle by throwing stones. Two separate FIRs have been filed and four persons detained for interrogation, said DSP Kishore Kumar Dongayat.
