Gangadhar Meher Award for Poet

SAMBALPUR:  The coveted Gangadhar Meher National Award for Poetry for 2013 will be conferred on  Odia poet Soubhagya Kumar Mishra.

The award would be presented to Mishra during the 48th Foundation Day celebration of the university at Burla in Sambalpur district on January 3, university sources informed.

The award, instituted in 1992 by Sambalpur University in memory of celebrated Odia poet Gangadhar Meher, carries a citation and `50,000 cash.

Well-known poets Ali Sardar Zafri (Urdu), Binda Karandikar and Jayanta Mohapatra (English), Ramakanta Rath (Odia), KS Satchidanandan (Malayalam) and Gulzar (Hindi) are  the past recipients of the prestigious award.
