CUTTACK: After the helium gas cylinder blast at Paradip Bali Jatra on Saturday evening, the Cuttack district administration has swung into action to safeguard against such mishaps at Bali Jatra fair here. Twelve persons were injured in Paradip blast.

The Cuttack administration has banned entry of helium cylinders to the fair ground and a strict watch is being kept on balloon sellers. Instructions have been issued to the sellers to fill their balloons at isolated areas on the Mahanadi river bank before entering the fair ground. Strict action will be taken against any seller found carrying the cylinders, administration warned.

“We have formed special enforcement squads to ensure that no seller carries a cylinder or engages in inflating balloons on the crowded ground. All steps are being taken to prevent any mishap of the kind here,” Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra said.

On Saturday evening a gas cylinder used for blowing balloons by a vendor exploded at the Bali Jatra fair at Paradip, injuring 12 persons, including children. Four are stated to be serious and shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
