Thousands Throng Sabara Srikhetra

Express News Service

KORAPUT: Thousands of devotees from across the region and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh visited the Sabara Srikhetra on Tuesday to witness the ‘Deba Snana Purnima’ of the Trinity here.

After the regular rituals in the morning, the three divine siblings were taken to the ‘Snana Mandap’ amidst chanting of mantras and beating of drums.

Later, the servitors bathed the deities with holy water after performing a special set of rituals.

The temple administration had made adequate provisions for the occasion.

The Jagannanth temple of ‘Sabara Srikhetra’ was built in 1972 and the practice of pulling of chariots started after consecration of the temple.

But, unlike the worship at Puri, Sauras here worship their presiding deities on the Jagannath temple premises.
