Santragachi Express derails, passengers safe

BHADRAK:TWO coaches of Santragachi-Tirupati Express went off the tracks near Bhadrak, eight km from Bhadrak railway station, on Sunday. However, no one was injured.

The mishap occurred at about 8.15 pm when the train had crossed Bhadrak and was approaching Baudpur Station. The rear trolley of the parcel van and a general coach derailed and the train came to a halt.

The incident blocked the Up line while the Down line has been cleared. A relief train and medical van have already reached the site.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Rajiv Vishnoi has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The Divisional Railway Manager and heads of departments have been asked to reach the mishap spot and take stock of the situation.

Baudpur Station Master Dasarathi Barik said  the train was coming from Santragachi and it had no halt at the station.

Railway authorities said the front portion of the train is being taken to the next station to run around the Guard Van and resume the journey. A control room has been set up and helpline numbers are being created.

Chief Public Relations Officer J P Mishra said Vishnoi was personally reviewing the relief and restoration operations. Early resumption of the train operations is being expedited, he added.

Unaffected portion of the train involved in the accident will be moved from site after safety measures are ascertained, he added.

Movements of trains were affected by the mishap. Three trains from Bhadrak and six from Bhubaneswar were detained at different points.

Meanwhile, ambulance services from railway and Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital were rushed to the spot, said Bhadrak Railway Station Master Prafulla Mohanty.
