BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance sleuths arrested Dr Rabindra Kumar Jena, Professor and Head of Department (HOD) of Clinical Haematology in SCB Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday evening after tracing disproportionate assets worth Rs 3.23 crore back to him.

A Vigilance officer privy to the investigation told the New Indian Express that Jena was intercepted near Laxmannath road check-gate in Balasore on December 20 evening and brought to Cuttack.

"Jena was wanted in a disproportionate assets case. He was nabbed on December 20 evening and he will be produced at a court in Cuttack on Thursday," a Vigilance officer said.

According to Vigilance officers, Jena had submitted an application with the hospital authorities seeking an extension of his leave by three weeks. Vigilance sleuths had approached dean and principal of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack to collect his leave address given by him to the authorities.

The agency's sleuths had reached Mahakalapada in Kendrapara district on December 15 as per the leave address submitted by Jena, but he was not there. The anti-corruption agency's officers had conducted simultaneous searches at the properties of Jena in November.

The agency's sleuths had also seized several travel documents during the searches. The officers suspect that Jena's foreign trips were allegedly sponsored by pharmaceutical companies.
