BHUBANESWAR: The service lane connecting Baramunda with Khandagiri has turned into a dumping ground. The Municipal authorities, apparently, have little knowledge about it. A drain passing under the service lane is filled with garbage and filth which has been posing inconvenience to the commuters.
A day back, the carcass of a cow was found on the lane forcing the commuters, passing through the route, to cover their faces due to the foul smell. The carcass was removed from the place on Tuesday.
Apart from the locals  dumping garbage on the service lane, several nearby organisations are also disposing of the waste at the site.

On Monday, a truck filled with garbage unloaded the garbage in the area. On being asked, the truck driver informed that a parking lot of a hospital in Unit-VI was being constructed  and the garbage from that place is being dumped at the site. The service lane is mostly used by buses, auto-rickshaws besides regular commuters for reaching areas in Khandagiri as taking the flyover would mean covering another 100 metres from Baramunda.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said there are transit points in the city where the garbage can be dumped and the civic body’s staff collect the waste.
The dumping locations cannot be places where there is movement of people. “BMC officials carried out a drive to inspect the cleanliness of different wards in the city from October 14. We will send the staff to the service lane near Baramunda soon for clearing the piled up garbage,” a civic body’s official said.
