JEYPORE: Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Sunday urged the young tribals to preserve their age-old traditions.

Speaking at the sixth Durua Adivasi Mahila Mahasangh at Budaguda in Koraput’s Kundra block, the Governor paid tributes to tribal freedom fighters of the district and urged people to emulate the sons of the soil. Tribals have been guiding humanity during tough times.

They have managed to preserve their art, culture, tradition and language despite the onslaught of civilisation.

“I urge the tribal community to lead their lives in peaceful co-existence with mother nature,” he said. On the occasion, the Governor assured the Durua community that their demand for Scheduled Tribal (ST) status will be considered by the government.

He also interacted with some members of the community. Later, the Governor visited Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Jeypore where a State-level essay competition on ‘Azadi ka amrit mahotsav’ was organised. He interacted with students on various issues.
