Two Odisha government staff in vigilance net for bribery

Vigilance officials caught two government employees red-handed while they were receiving bribe in separate incidents in Ganjam and Nayagarh districts on Friday.

BERHAMPUR:  Vigilance officials caught two government employees red-handed while they were receiving bribe in separate incidents in Ganjam and Nayagarh districts on Friday. 

In Ganjam, senior revenue assistant Swati Sucharita Patra of Chhatrapur tehsil office was nabbed by Vigilance officials while she was accepting Rs 5,000 bribe from the complainant to process a file for conversion of agriculture land to homestead and issuance of record of rights (RoR).

Following the trap, simultaneous raids were carried out at three places owned by Patra to unearth disproportionate assets. Berhampur Vigilance registered a case and further investigation is underway.
Similarly, junior stenographer in the district treasury office of Nayagarh Durga Prasad Mohapatra was apprehended when he was taking bribe to process applications for opening permanent retirement account number (PRAN) of 161 teachers. Mohapatra had demanded Rs 48,000 bribe. Bhubaneswar Vigilance also raided Mohapatra’s residence and office to detect assets owned by the stenographer. A case has been registered in this connection.
