Two youths killed as tractor hits motorcycle in Odisha

Locals rushed the injured duo to Digapahandi community health centre where the doctors declared them brought dead.

BERHAMPUR: Two youths were killed after a stone-laden tractor rammed into their motorcycle near Bhusunda village under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Tofan Gouda (25) and Sumit Kumar Panda (26) of Palajhadi village. Police said the duo was returning home from Digapahandi when the mishap took place. While the youths sustained critical injuries in the accident and lay motionless on the road, the tractor driver fled after abandoning his vehicle at the mishap site.

Locals rushed the injured duo to Digapahandi community health centre where the doctors declared them brought dead. After autopsy at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, the bodies were handed over to the bereaved families.

Digapahandi police has registered a hit-and-run case and seized both the vehicles involved in the mishap. Efforts are on the trace the tractor driver and further investigation is underway, said police.
