Nuapada excise department achieves 87% revenue target; crackdown on illegal liquor intensified

The collector directed Excise officials to intensify action against illegal liquor trade and smuggling activities.

NUAPADA: A review meeting to evaluate the performance and revenue collection of the Excise department in Nuapada was held under the chairmanship of district collector Madhusudan Das on Friday.

As per official data presented at the meeting, the district had set an annual revenue target of Rs 30.11 crore for the financial year 2025-26. By March 2026, a total of Rs 26.30 crore had been collected, achieving 87.37 per cent of the target.

The meeting also reviewed enforcement activities carried out by the Excise department. By March 2026, 1,942 cases had been detected, leading to the arrest of 1,203 individuals of whom 1,090 were forwarded to court. A total of 1,156 charge-sheets were filed.

Officials informed that significant quantities of illicit substances including country liquor, IMFL, beer, mahua flowers, ganja, cough syrup, and other illegal items were seized during enforcement drives.
