BHAWANIPATNA: A local BJP leader was reportedly stabbed to death by unidentified miscreants at Domkarlakhunta village under M Rampur police limits in Kalahandi district on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Fakira Rana (45), the vice-president of BJP’s Mohangiri Mandal. He was also the husband of the sarpanch of Domkarlakhunta panchayat.

The incident took place at around 8 pm. According to reports, Rana left his house for some work in the evening. While returning home on his bike, he was reportedly attacked by some miscreants with sharp weapons near the panchayat office.

Locals found him lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to M Rampur community health centre. However, he was declared brought dead. On being informed, police reached the spot for investigation.

A scientific team also arrived at the crime scene to gather evidence. A senior police officer said two persons have been detained in this connection and are being interrogated. Police are investigating all possible angles including political rivalry and personal animosity. Efforts are underway to identify the miscreants and nab them, he added.
