18-year-old detained for impregnating minor girl in Odisha

As per the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, they noticed changes in the girl’s body following which they took her for medical test only to find her seven months pregnant.

CUTTACK: Police on Saturday detained an 18-year-old boy for allegedly impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

The accused, a resident of Jagatsinghpur Town area, is a Plus II dropout. The victim is a Class X student and native of Niali police limits area.

The incident came to light after the girl was found around seven months pregnant by her family recently. She has been rehabilitated in a child care institution by the Child Welfare Committee.

As per the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, they noticed changes in the girl’s body following which they took her for medical test only to find her seven months pregnant.

On asking her about it, the girl narrated the entire incident to them. As per the girl, the accused allegedly came in contact with her while visiting his aunt who lives in her village. He allegedly lured her away on some pretext and established physical relationship with her, alleged the girl’s family.

After coming to know of her pregnancy, they lodged a complaint with police on the day following which the boy was detained. “Although the accused claims to have just attained the age of 18, we are questioning him to verify his age to ascertain if he was a minor during commission of the crime,” said a senior police officer.
