KANCHEEPURAM: The Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate Court-I on Thursday ordered comedian actor Sajjiah Adeebh, also known by his stage name of Chitti Babu, to furnish a surety deposit of  Rs 20,000 in the court on February 2 and personally appear before court the next day to answer charges in a case of dishonouring a cheque amounting to Rs 2 lakh.

The actor had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from Kancheepuram-based businessman Arumugam on March 8, 2008. The money was not repaid until the Magistrate court was approached to issue a bailable warrant against the offender under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Prosecution lawyer C Murugan said that a warrant was issued ordering the actor to appear in the court, since he was trying to defer the payment under one pretext or the other.

Meanwhile, Chitti Babu managed to have the warrants cancelled a couple of times on health grounds.

As a result, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him on January 3 this year, after Chitti Babu failed to appear in the Magistrate court in response to an earlier bailable warrant.

However, all of a sudden the judge of the popular comedy show Asathapovathu Yaaru made an appearance in the court on Thursday and the case has now been adjourned to February 3.
