Guru at it again, uses strong words

Express News Service

A year after his explosive remarks in Mamallapuram, PMK MLA Kaduvetti J Guru was back at the same stage -- this time to virtually threaten the government.

Lashing out at the authorities for delaying permission to hold the ‘Chithirai Muzhu Nilavu Vanniya Ilaignar Peruvizha’, Guru said, “Our aim is not to create violence. But, if we create violence, the state will not be able to face it.”

He also tried to explain his last year’s statement in Thursday’s speech.

“We are from agricultural families. We have sickles and knives in our houses to carry out agricultural activities. We can save our lives with the help of those instruments whenever in need. That’s what I told cadre. But, the general public misunderstood my statement,” he said.

In his controversial 2012 speech, Guru had reportedly said that in case of an inter-caste marriage, the groom should be killed. A few days after his virulent speech, around 500 houses of Dalits were burnt down in Dharmapuri following a love marriage.
