Bharathiar University is mulling introduction of the rotation system in the appointment of head of the departments of the university. Currently, the head of the department’s appointments were done based on the discretion of the Vice Chancellor. Now, a syndicate decision to introduce rotation system is to be sent to the Governor-Chancellor K Rosaiah for his assent.

As per the new decision, the headship of a particular department will be given to the professors working in that department on a rotation basis for a period of three years on a seniority basis. Bharathiar University Teachers Association president V Kubendran welcomed the move saying it would bring a healthy practice.

“The rotation system in the appointment of head of the department can be implemented successfully, only if an amendment was made in the university statutes, which says the HoDs appointment is the discretionary power of the Vice Chancellor,” he said.
