Missing woman’s body traced after ten months

Express News Service

The Madurai district police have solved a 10-month-old missing case with the recovery of a woman’s body from an abandoned well on the foothills of Tiruparankundram, near the city on Wednesday.

The deceased, Saranya (31), an employee of a textile shop in the city, was killed by her 18-year-old paramour using a beer bottle, when they met clandestinely at a secluded spot in September last.

According to police, Saranya was living with her parents after her husband deserted her. On September 12 last year, Saranya, who left for work, did not return. As her parents could not trace her, they lodged a complaint in Tirunagar police station.

After probe, Pattiyappan (18), of Otta Naickan Street surrendered before the police and confessed that he had murdered Saranya, with whom he had an affair.

On the day of the incident, Pattiyappan and Saranya met secretly in Tiruparankundram near Nilaiyur Branch Road. When Pattiyappan, who was in an inebriated condition, tried to have intercourse with the woman, a passerby who witnessed the scene reprimanded the duo.

Immediately, the woman removed her slippers and beat Pattiyappan, condemning his behaviour.

Angered by this, the youth attacked her with a broken beer bottle and killed her on the spot. He then dumped the body. Police later remanded him to judicial custody. He was lodged in the Borstal school jail in Pudukottai, police said.
