The district police department has taken action against two inspectors of Gudiyattam sub-division for dereliction of duty. A show cause notice was issued on Thursday and an inquiry was ordered.

Superintendent of Police of Vellore I Eswaran initiated action against inspector of Pernambut station Sampath and inspector of Gudiyattam taluk station Muralidharan under the provisions of 3-B of the Tamil Nadu Sub-Ordinate Police Officers Conduct Rules of 1964 for failing to check brewing, selling and smuggling of illicit liquor in their respective jurisdiction. The SP signed the show cause notice against the policemen and initiated the enquiry. He would conduct an enquiry and submit a report to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Vellore range.

“I had directed the inspectors to take strong measures to eradicate illegal sale of liquor and to check smuggling of contraband. I gave them time till February 28 and extended the deadline to first week of March,” Eswaran said.

The SP said he had prepared a list of inspectors who didn’t take steps to curb illegal sale of liquor. They would be charged under the Tamil Nadu Sub-Ordinate Police Officers Conduct Rules, he added.
