PUDUCHERRY: DMK MLA A M H Nazeem has sought the inclusion of Sozhia Vellalar and Kannada Saineegar castes in the central list of Other Backward Castes (OBCs) for Puducherry.
In a petition, Nazim urged the chairman of State Level Commission for Backward Classes to recommend inclusion of these castes in the central list of OBCs so that beneficiaries could secure seats in educational institutions and jobs in central government organizations. He stated that though the castes were included in the list of OBCs for the UT, they are not included in the central list.
Both the communities are socially backward and needed to be supported as many youth belonging to these castes have only now realized the importance of education and employment, he added.
